Multisensory Language Instruction

A 30-hour course for teachers and adults.
Participants will:
- Learn and understand the components of multisensory instruction
- Learn about Samuel Orton and Anna Gillingham
- Learn how to teach phonics using the Orton-Gillingham method of instruction
- Learn strategies that promote mastery of phonological awareness, reading, and spelling skills
- Make useful materials that can enhance a lesson
- Observe lessons by Jemicy faculty
- Prepare and teach your own lesson to other class members
- Participate in a dyslexia simulation — Put Yourself in the Shoes of a Dyslexic
- View and discuss the F.A.T. City video
*The Multisensory Language Instruction workshop is offered as BOTH:
- a stand-alone course for those not seeking Orton-Gillingham certification AND
- the prerequisite course required for Orton-Gillingham certification. This course must be completed before taking the Orton-Gillingham I course for certification. The Orton-Gillingham I course will be begin shortly after completion of the final session of the Multisensory Language Instruction course. College Credit! Goucher College will be offering up to 3 graduate credits (at $100 per credit) for taking this course. Also, 2 Continuing Education Credits are available through MSDE. Please contact Amy Thierer (information below) for further details.
